The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027 is being organised by the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras). The national-level examination is used by participating institutions for admission to postgraduate programmes and by certain public sector organisations for recruitment, subject to their individual eligibility and selection rules.
The GATE 2027 notification and information brochure contain details about registration, eligibility, examination dates, paper combinations, application requirements and the result schedule. The online registration process has now closed, including the special registration window that ended on 16 October 2026. Candidates who have already submitted an application should check their GOAPS account and registered email for application scrutiny updates.
The application scrutiny-defect rectification window is scheduled to remain open until 31 October 2026. Candidates should correct any defects specifically identified by the GATE authorities within the permitted period.

GATE 2027 Application Defect Rectification
Application scrutiny is conducted after registration. Candidates may see different statuses in their GOAPS accounts, including an application under scrutiny, an application marked defective, or an application accepted and in order.
If the organising institute or zonal institute has notified you about a defect, read the message carefully and complete the required correction by 31 October 2026.
Steps to Correct an Application Defect
- Visit the official GATE 2027 website.
- Open the GOAPS login portal.
- Sign in using your registered credentials.
- Check the application status and any defect notification.
- Read the specific correction instructions in the portal or registered email.
- Upload or correct the requested information or document in the prescribed format.
- Submit the correction and check whether the status is updated.
- Save any acknowledgement or confirmation for future reference.
The scrutiny-defect correction process is intended to address defects identified by the authorities. It is not the same as the separate paid data-correction facility, whose schedule is still listed as to be announced. Candidates should not assume that every field can be changed during defect rectification.
GATE 2027 Eligibility Criteria
GATE 2027 is open to candidates who satisfy the examination’s qualifying-degree requirements. The eligibility rules cover several undergraduate, postgraduate and recognised professional qualification pathways.
In general, students who are currently studying in the third year or higher of an eligible undergraduate degree, as well as candidates who have completed an accepted degree, may be eligible. The exact requirement depends on the degree and discipline.
Before applying or checking your application status, review the eligibility section of the official information brochure. Qualification for GATE does not automatically guarantee admission, scholarship or employment. Each university, institution or recruiting organisation may impose additional conditions.
GATE 2027 Age Limit
There is no upper age limit for appearing in GATE 2027. The examination also does not prescribe a general limit on the number of attempts.
However, candidates must still meet the eligibility requirements of the postgraduate programme, scholarship scheme or recruitment process for which they intend to use their GATE score.
GATE 2027 Application Fee
The application fee depended on the candidate category and registration period. The following amounts were listed for registration.
| Candidate Category | Regular Period per Paper | Late-Fee Period per Paper |
|---|---|---|
| Female candidates, SC, ST and PwD candidates | ₹1,000 | ₹1,500 |
| All other candidates, including foreign nationals | ₹2,000 | ₹2,500 |
These are the published registration fees, not a currently payable fee. Registration is closed. Candidates should refer to the official information brochure for the applicable fee rules and refund conditions.
GATE 2027 Exam Pattern
GATE is a computer-based examination. The test paper is generally conducted for three hours and carries 100 marks, including the General Aptitude section and the subject-specific portion. The question types may include Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), Multiple Select Questions (MSQs) and Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions.
| Particular | Details |
|---|---|
| Examination Mode | Computer-Based Test (CBT) |
| Duration | 3 hours |
| Total Marks | 100 |
| General Aptitude | 15 marks |
| Subject Questions | Remaining marks according to the paper |
| Question Types | MCQ, MSQ and NAT |
Negative marking applies to certain incorrect MCQ answers. MSQ and NAT questions do not have negative marking under the standard GATE pattern. Candidates should check the specific paper instructions and information brochure before preparing their exam strategy.
GATE 2027 Papers and Two-Paper Combinations
GATE 2027 offers multiple subject papers across engineering, technology, science, architecture, humanities and related disciplines. The official information brochure includes the paper codes, syllabi and permitted two-paper combinations.
Candidates who selected two papers during registration must ensure that their chosen combination is permitted under the official rules. Paper codes and combinations can be revised by the organising institute, so applicants should use the latest brochure rather than relying on an older year’s list.
GATE 2027 Admit Card and Exam City Information
The official schedule lists 4 January 2027 as the city allotment notification date. The admit card download date is currently shown as to be announced.
Candidates should check the official website for updates about the examination city and admit card. The city notification is not a substitute for the admit card. Once the admit card becomes available, verify the examination date, session, centre address and reporting instructions carefully.
GATE 2027 Result Date
The official schedule lists 19 March 2027 as the date for announcement of GATE 2027 results. Candidates should check the official website for the result link and scorecard instructions when the results are published.
GATE qualification does not guarantee admission, financial assistance or a PSU job. Each participating institution and employer applies its own eligibility, score and selection criteria.
